Here at BingetownTV, we are in the business of watching A LOT of TV. New shows dropping constantly while still having older TV shows sitting in that ever-growing queue…….
Sometimes, I just don’t have it in me to start a 5+ season TV show (Kathleen here- looking at you, Last Kingdom!!! I will watch you soon, I’m sorry!!!!). In these moments, I tend to commit my energy to a string of single season tv shows. It makes me feel accomplished – crushing shows left and right, falling deeply in love with characters only to move immediately on to the next. A true rollercoaster!
Luckily, there are plenty of phenomenal shows with only one season released. Whether season two is in production, or it’s a one season standalone – settle in for some solid recs to crush.
(PS this list is NOT exhaustive – everyone knows The Haunting of Hill house is the single greatest standalone season of television of all time!)
Yellowjackets 2021 – Showtime (Well… okay, season two just aired, but I had to add to the list!)
Team, if you haven’t watched this show yet, you’re asleep at the wheel. And I get it – you don’t have a Showtime account! Never fear, do what I do, and steal your parents cable provider info and log the heck in, buckle up, and get ready to be BUZZIN. This show is a gore-filled, savage, “coming of age” that will make you gasp, laugh out loud, and fall deeply in love with its incredibly flawed characters. Not to mention, this show does what BingetownTV loves most – Moral ambiguity. Get caught up because this show is the next best thing!
While you watch, you can follow along with our coverage of the show here! https://www.bingetowntv.com/category/podcast/yellowjackets/

Severance 2022 – AppleTV (renewed for season two!)
Severance is one of the best TV shows released in recent memory. This show is a major mindF*ck, and has one of the best season finales I’ve ever seen – truly making me want to run through a wall. The premise says it all: your work memories are severed from your non-work memories, essentially creating two different people in one body. NUFF SAID!
Not sure if you’re fully “in” yet? Check out our podcast episode where we watch the pilot episode for the first time and make a decision on whether or not it is worth an immediate binge! E244Apple TV’s Severance (Pilot Coverage) – PitchTownTV – BingetownTV

Bad Sisters 2022 – Apple TV (Renewed for season 2!)
I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into with this show, but good GOD was it a ride! Probably the most anxiety-inducing show on the list (maybe a tie with The Bear…), this show follows five very-charming sisters who are up to some reaaaaal Vigilante Shit™ (hi, Taylor!). Their brother-in-law, played by Claes Bang, is hands down the most villainous character I’ve ever seen in my life. Truly worse than any sci-fi big bad, worse-than-Joffrey type human. Tune in for ten episodes of female sisterhood and many, many failed murder plots.

Fleishman is in Trouble 2022 – FX on HULU
First of all, look at this cast. Janice Ian, Seth Cohen, Mark Zuckerberg, and Carrie Mathison walk into a bar…..
But really – this was a sleeper pick for me. I haven’t heard much buzz around this show, which is a mistake. Jesse Eisenberg plays a recently divorced dad navigating his new life without his wife (Claire Danes). This show dives deep into relationships, grief, mental health, and tbh, just LIFE. With a penultimate episode that changed the narrative and made me weep – this show will make you feel allllllllllll the feelings. Definitely worth a binge.

Station 11 2021 – HBO Max
Let me guess, you just binged The Last of Us and you already miss Joel and Ellie. Well, allow me to introduce you to your newest adoptive-father/daughter cutie pies, Kirsten and Jeevan!!! And you guessed it, it’s another post-apocalyptic (Flu pandemic!!!!! Little on the nose!!!!) romp. Try not to SOB your way through the finale of this show. Just trust me, OKAY!!!!

The Bear 2022 – FX on Hulu (Again.. not for long! Season two airs June 2023!)
The Bear is a workplace drama that feels unique and Jeremy Allen White is incredible in it. It’s an anxiety-inducing show about a talented chef who comes back home to run the family sandwich shop after his brother’s tragic death. I have never worked in the service industry (nor will I after this show), but it’s an absolute must-watch. Will I be binge-ing season two immediately in June? Yes, chef!
